Costumes and Makeup: One of the most striking features of Kathakali is its elaborate costumes and makeup. The actors wear vibrant, detailed costumes and intricate makeup, including colorful facial paint and dramatic headdresses.

Music and Instruments: Kathakali is accompanied by a unique style of music that includes vocals, percussion instruments like chenda and maddalam, and traditional instruments like chengila (gong) and elathalam. The music adds depth and rhythm to the performances.

Training and Techniques: Becoming a Kathakali artist requires rigorous training. It involves learning specific body postures, hand gestures, facial expressions, and the nuances of storytelling. Training can take several years to master.

Classification of Characters: Kathakali has a distinct classification system for characters known as ‘Vesham.’ This categorization includes different makeup patterns and costumes that represent various character types, such as gods, demons, heroes, heroines, and more.
